Admissions Process

We hope that our website will tempt you to find out even more about what Shapwick School can offer your son or daughter.

You can request a copy of our prospectus by completing the enquiry form

The best way, though, to find out more about our unique education environment is to visit us. We are very proud of our pupils’ successes, and love to showcase our work to visitors. Please call 01458 210384 (for pupils aged 13-17) or 01278 722012 (for pupils aged 8-12).

Shapwick is a selective school. Our policy is to welcome pupils at any age between 8 -19 years diagnosed as having specific learning difficulties, provided an Educational Psychologist agrees they possess at least average potential. We do not accept pupils with emotional and behavioural problems.

Before potential entrants to the school are invited to interview, an up to date Educational Psychologist’s report should be made available. This needs to indicate the extent of specific learning difficulty experienced and that the candidate is of at least average potential. A current report from a head teacher is required, confirming that the pupil’s conduct has been satisfactory.

Pupils wishing to join Shapwick may or may not be assessed by the school. Further assessment is not necessary where children have been recently seen by an Educational Psychologist.  However, Shapwick may complete the following assessments when required:

  • Revised Neale Analysis of Reading Ability offering Reading Accuracy Age, Reading Comprehension Age and Reading Rate
  • Schonell Spelling Age
  • Basic Number Screening Test
    LASS Profile

As part of the admissions process Shapwick School strongly recommends that prospective pupils spend a day at the school or in the case of boarding, two days including a sleep over. Throughout the taster day visiting pupils will be accompanied by another pupil who will look after them and take them to and from lessons and activities.
