Shapwick Prep Pupils Experience Victorian Times
The Year 4-6 Juniors at Shapwick Prep recently visited a Victorian School, near Minehead, as part of their historical studies.
The children dressed up in costume and had a typical Victorian Maths and English lesson - with only the threat of the cane being suggested for inappropriate behaviour! However two children did not escape wearing the dunce's hat!
They also had a P.T. session and played several Victorian games in their playground breaks - hoops, marbles, hopscotch and stilt walking. At lunchtime the children had a Victorian meal - brown chunks of bread and cheese with ham hocks, followed by a summer pudding all washed down with water.
Although they enjoyed the day, the experience led the pupils to appreciate how much luckier they are today.
