Children and staff at Shapwick Prep bid an emotional farewell to their much loved secretary, Kay Apperley, who retired on the 29th January 2010 after an astonishingly dedicated and loyal 32 years’ of service.

Her lifetime of dedication and work for the school is unquestionable and she will be sorely missed by everyone – staff, students and parents alike.

A special assembly was held on Friday morning which gave all staff and children the opportunity to say farewell. Children read out poems/rhymes that they had written and each year group presented Kay with gifts to remember them by. During morning break time the children enjoyed a special retirement cake that was cut by Kay.

Shapwick School’s Joint Headmasters made a formal presentation to Kay at Prizegiving at the end of the autumn term so that parents could show their appreciation for her care, support and attention to detail which has always been way beyond the normal remit of a school secretary.

David Walker and Jon Whittock, Joint Headmasters at Shapwick School commented “On behalf of the Directors, present and past parents and pupils we would like to publicly and loudly thank Kay for her unstinting devotion and level of care she has consistently shown over her years of service. We would like to wish Kay a very happy retirement”.
