Pupils Raise Money for New Hovercraft

  • Year 9 Pupils at the start of their walk

Year 9 pupils at Shapwick School participated in a sponsored walk from Glastonbury Tor back to Shapwick School last Saturday.

After a wet morning, the weather settled to enable the pupils to complete the three hour walk. The money raised will be given to the Burnham on Sea Area Rescue Boat (BARB) which was set up in 1992. The money will be given to the charity to help fund a new hovercraft costing £60,000.

Year 9 tutor, Dan Burnett, commented “I am delighted that the majority of year 9 took part in the walk, with a number of pupils in fancy dress related to the sea. The money raised will be greatly appreciated by BARB, and after the money has been counted, all those involved plan to visit both the RNLI station and the hovercraft centre, and if it can be arranged a mock rescue may even take place with me as the victim!”
