Speech Day 2011
Friday 8th July was the Prizegiving at Shapwick School. It was a happy, exciting and proud day for all the leavers and prizewinners. However it was also an extremely sad day as tribute was paid to one of the Joint Headmasters - Mr. David Walker - who recently tragically passed away. Mrs. Annette Walker and their children shared the day when Mr. Jon Whittock talked about the huge legacy Mr. Walker had left at the school throughout his 28 years of service, he spoke about his passion to help pupils fulfil their potential and he fondly shared memories of times they had spent together and stories of the wonderful sense of humour David possessed, he then presented a picture of David to Annette a copy of which will be hung at school.
The School had much to celebrate with lots of pupils achieving outstanding results with a number increasing their reading and maths ages by huge amounts, ie individual spelling age increase 100 months, reading 76 and maths 61 months all in just 12 months. Trophies and awards were given for sports achievements, personal endeavour, persistence, effort and progress.
