ICT
The school has excellent ICT facilities with all rooms having broadband access. Students have ample opportunity to use computers to support their work and access to computers for leisure.
In Year 9 pupils have specific lessons to improve their keyboarding skills using a dedicated programme - Englishtype. They also have lessons to ensure they are competent in word processing, presentation software, basic use of spreadsheets and the use of the internet. This covers a number of aspects including emails, searching for information and safety.
In Years 10 and 11 teachers build on these in more detail using an online tutor to support the curriculum.
Shapwick is fortunate to be able to offer Ginger Software. This is much more than a spell checker as it examines the context of the word before offering suggestions and we are involved in the development of the software.
Pupils can also use their own laptops for voice recognition software or coursework tasks.
All pupils will have the functional skills necessary to use computers independently and will have the opportunity to complete a short course GCSE.
