Catering

Shapwick students enjoy a wide range of culinary delights by a team of dedicated catering professionals, which was highly commended by OFSTED in the 2009 care inspection.

The kitchens are open from 7am until 7pm, seven days a week, and all meals are cooked on the premises using local, fresh produce. The catering team cater for all dietary needs.

Sixth form boarders eat their breakfast at school before departing for college. Lunch money is issued on college days to enable students to buy a hot meal from the college refectory.

Sixth form students return to Shapwick by 6pm and have their evening meal with all other students. Students can normally choose a hot snack option or salad.

Students are encouraged to eat their ‘five a day’ and learn the importance of health and nutrition.

At a recent inspection carried out by Sedgemoor District Council in October 2008 the Shapwick School kitchen was awarded the top award of five stars. The kitchen has also achieved the Somerset Hygiene Award for several years. All catering staff attend a Food Handling course every three years.
