Year 7 Field Trip
On a damp Wednesday 8th May, Year 7 pupils set off on a combined Geography and Science trip.
We parked at Dead Woman’s Ditch on the Quantocks and headed down the combe in search of the source of the River Holford. Pupils identified key parts of the river as we followed its course. At seven locations in the upper course, measurements of different variables were taken, including velocity, depth, width, pebble size and shape. The results were used in lessons to help understanding of rivers and use mathematical skills to calculate averages and graphs.
Pupils enjoyed their field trip in the woods and jumping in the river and have learned many geographical fieldwork techniques. As the weather was showery they did well and persisted in cold, damp conditions. Thank you to Victoria Billany and Tabi Anderson for their support with the trip.
