Life Skills is offered as an option in Years 10 and 11.
Life Skills are defined by UNICEF as psychosocial abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enables individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life, whether at school, at work or in our personal lives.
Our students work towards the ASDAN accredited CoPE (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness).
The aims of this qualification are:
- To help develop and demonstrate a range of skills.
- To provide a way in which to gain credit for what you have learnt from the wide variety of activities undertaken both inside and outside formal education.
A total of 10 credits must be gained in order to achieve Level 1.
A credit is awarded after approximately 10 hours study of a wide range of modules and short courses. The short course "Foodwise" is a precursor to the BTEC Home Cookery award, offered in the Sixth Form.
The Life Skills option is needs-led and as such can be altered if necessary, according to each student group.
