U13's National Dyslexic Football Tournament held at Shapwick School

As the 2011 tournament champions, Shapwick School hosted the annual National Dyslexic Football Tournament.  The competition was league-based, with the two schools achieving the most points progressing through to the final.  Shapwick played valiantly during the league matches and only lost one game.  They then featured in the most entertaining game of the tournament where they played in the 3rd and 4th playoff match against Calder House from Wiltshire.  It was end-to-end stuff with Joe Barron from Shapwick scoring a fantastic individual goal and then Calder house managing to equalize.  It ended 1-1 at the final whistle, which meant it was golden-goal time.  With neither team managing to score during the extra period, it came down to penalities.  Each team produced some superb finishes from the penalty spot, but Calder House managed to keep their nerve and won the shoot-out 4-3.

2012 Football tournamentThe final was between More House School from Surrey (runners-up to Shapwick last year) and tournament new-comers Stanbridge Earls from Hampshire.  The final showcased the best two footballing teams in the competition, with some talented youngsters on display.

It was an evenly contested game, however, the More House captain put in an outstanding performance, which earned him the player of the tournament award and helped his team pick up the Championship trophy after a 2-0 win.  More House were worthy winners on the day and will host next year's tournament.

Mr. Coombes, Head of PE and Games at Shapwick School, would like to thank all the schools, supporters and staff that made is such a brilliant day.
